Read The Past Imagine the Future is something new at your local library.

In this Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture libraries are launching a new campaign to encourage more people to get reading.

The Read The Past Imagine the Future campaign supported by the Scottish Library and Information Council*, will be live in libraries in South Lanarkshire from 24 April to 3 December 2017.

Read the Past Imagine the Future aims to raise awareness among people of all ages to discover what their local library offers, including book lending, computers and IT facilities, e-books, newspapers and magazines, author events, children’s activities, reading groups, local and family history resources and employment support. It also aims to encourage reading throughout communities across Scotland and to widen knowledge of local and national history.

The seven month Scottish national reading promotion will include fiction, non-fiction and will celebrate Scotland’s rich heritage, history and culture of writing and reading. Stock will include local and national history and local authors as well as stock that focuses on our heritage and depicts images and ideas of the future.

Gerry Campbell, General Manager of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture said:

“With this campaign, we want to inspire people to visit their local library and pick up a new book and enjoy reading for the pleasure it brings.  It’s amazing how much books and reading can teach you and open up your imagination.

“Modern libraries offer something for people of all ages.  We want to connect people to the possibilities and opportunities at their local library, through our books, our people and our technology.  Your local library will be running a competition from the 24 April to 12 November 2017 with winners of the Book Tokens announced during Book Week Scotland."

Competition

The competition to win a £50.00 book token runs in libraries across Scotland. To enter - submit a book review at a local library or tweet using #ReadThePast17 and include @southlanarkshirelibraries in the tweet.  A copy of the terms and conditions are available at your local library.

East Kilbride Rep present The Kitchen Sink
By Tom Wells
Directed by Rachael Wilson
Produced by Fiona Chapman

Things aren’t going to plan for one family in Withernsea, Yorkshire. Pieces are falling off Matin’s milk float as quickly as he’s losing customers and something’s up with Kath’s kitchen sink. Billy is pinning his hopes of a place at art college on a revealing portrait of Dolly Parton, whilst Sophie’s dreams of becoming a ju-jitsu teacher might be disappearing down the plughole. Amid the dreaming, the dramas and the dirty dishes, something has to give. But will it be Kath or the kitchen sink?

An irresistibly funny and tender play about big dreams and small changes.

Available to book online or by calling East Kilbride Arts Centre on 01355 261000.
