Children's fines for overdue library books have been abolished across all South Lanarkshire libraries as more children are encouraged to use the service. Research has shown that children's fines can deter parents on lower incomes from allowing children to use the library service. It is anticipated that the absence of fines will encourage higher use of library services by children and their parents
