Level 2 - improvers

Level 2-improvers swimming lessons at South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture

Entry Criteria

Physical

  • 4 years of age minimum
  • Swim width of tank unaided on front
  • Enter and exit water without assistance
  • Put face in water
  • Kick width of tank on back with or without float

Psychological

  • Be part of a class
  • Participate without a carer or 1-1 assistance being required
  • Cope with change of depth of water

Aims

  • To further develop multi-stroke foundations (front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke)
  • Introduce butterfly (dolphin) movements
  • Push and glide on back
  • Water safety awareness, preparation for progression to deep water
  • Entry to and exit from deeper water

Exit Criteria

  • Swim 25m on front as defined in curriculum
  • Swim 25m on back as defined in curriculum
  • Swim breaststroke as defined in curriculum
  • Push and glide of front and back
  • Enter and exit water without assistance

Curriculum

  • Front Crawl - alternating leg kick, alternating over arm pull, body position i.e. face down
  • Back Crawl - alternating leg kick, alternating arm pull, body position
  • Breaststroke - simultaneous leg kick, simultaneous arm pull, body position
  • Butterfly - Dolphin movements
  • Enter and exit water safely without assistance
  • Push and glide on front and back
  • Prepare for progression to deep water
  • Waterskills - Sculling,floating (various types), somersaults, sitting on pool bottom, breathing drills
