Level 4 - advanced swimming lessons at South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture

Entry Criteria

Physical

  • Swim 50m on front as defined in curriculum (level 3)
  • Swim 50m on back as defined in curriculum (level 3)
  • Breaststroke technique as defined in curriculum (level 3)
  • Dolphin movements
  • Beginner diving
  • Retrieve object from pool floor (minimum depth 1.2m)

Psychological

  • Be part of a class
  • Swim in deep water
  • Participate without adult or 1 - 1 assistance being required
  • Able to perform a basic piece of work on their own
  • Able to make small refinements to technique

Aims

  • To reinforce and refine technique on better strokes
  • Further develop weaker strokes
  • Deep water advanced
  • Water safety,lifesaving
  • Pre-competitive skills

Exit Criteria

  • Swim 200mn on front
  • Swim 100m on back
  • Front crawl competent technique as defined in curriculum
  • Back crawl competent technique as defined in curriculum
  • Breaststroke competent technique as defined in curriculum
  • Elementary butterfly technique as defined in curriculum
  • Standing diving and jumping (pool depth permitting)
  • Advanced water skills

Curriculum

  • Front Crawl - breathing technique, timing
  • Back crawl - timing, rhythm
  • Breaststroke - pull pattern, whip kick, timing
  • Butterfly - arm pull, dolphin movement, kick, timing
  • Diving - standing, (pool depth permitting)
  • Jumping - various
  • Water skills - sculling, floating etc
  • Lifesaving skills
