Entry Criteria

Physical

  • Swim 200m on front as defined in curriculum (level 4)
  • Swim 100m on back as defined in curriculum (level 4)
  • Front crawl competent technique as defined in curriculum (level 4)
  • Back crawl competent technique as defined in curriculum (level 4)
  • Breaststroke competent technique as defined in curriculum (level 4)
  • Elementary butterfly technique as defined in curriculum (level 4)
  • Standing diving and jumping (pool depth permitting)
  • Advanced water skills

Psychological

  • Be part of a class
  • Swim in deep water
  • Able to perform a basic piece of work on own
  • Able to make small refinements to technique
  • Interested in progressing to competitive swimming club
  • Able to make small refinements to technique

Aims

  • To improve stroke technique on four competitive strokes
  • To introduce turning practices
  • To introduce starting practices
  • To introduce finishing practices
  • To introduce use of pace clock
  • To help swimmers to adapt to squad system

Exit Criteria

  • As agreed by individual clubs and pools

Curriculum

  • Advanced stroke technique on four competitive strokes
  • Race skills (starts, turns, finishes)
  • Breathing practices
  • Use of pace clock
  • Understanding terminology
  • Working as a squad
  • Lane discipline
