Active Schools reach an all-time high!
2017/18 has been a very successful year for the Active Schools program in South Lanarkshire with participation figures at an all-time high and more children than ever accessing these opportunities. In total there were just over 21,000 activity sessions delivered throughout 2017/18 with 49% of all children in the local authority attending an extracurricular club.
The Active Schools program is underpinned by a huge volunteer workforce with 96% of all clubs organised delivered on a voluntary basis. Over the past 5 years we have seen an increase year on year in the number of deliverers supporting activity across both Primary and Secondary Schools which in part is down to the fantastic partnerships we have developed with local Further Education establishments; University of West of Scotland, New College Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire College.
Active Schools is a sportscotland led programme designed to encourage children and young people to get active and stay active.
Recently this model of good practice was featured in sportscotlands SportFirst Digital Magazine.
Students are not the only key contributors and the Active Schools team would like to say a massive thank you to all the teachers, students, pupils, parents and local clubs that give up their time in order to provide opportunities for children to get active.
