Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA) is an Act of the Scottish Parliament which gives everyone the right to ask for any information held by a Scottish public authority.

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture is subject to FOISA and is committed to openness and transparency in the way it delivers services and makes decisions.

The aim of the Act is to increase openness and transparency by allowing people to access information about how decisions are taken and how public services are delivered.

Under FOISA, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture SCIO maintain a Publication Scheme which describes the classes of information which it publishes or intends to publish (usually on our website), how it does so, and any fees associated with these publications.

Finding Information

A considerable amount of information about South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture’s services and activities (including its Guide to Information in the Scheme) is published on the website. Before making a request, please check our website to see whether the information you require is already available.

Making a request

If you cannot find the information you are looking for within our Publication Scheme or on our website, you may submit a Freedom of Information request. Requests must be made in a permanent form, such as by email, letter or another recorded format.

You can make a request by:

  • Emailing our FOI Coordinator directly
  • Completing the online application form
  • Writing to South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture SCIO, Floor 5, Council Offices, Almada Street, Hamilton, ML3 0EW; or
  • Collecting and submitting an application form available from SLLC leisure centres, libraries, and cultural venues.

Tips for making an FOI request

To help us process your request as quickly as possible, please:

  • Clearly describe the information you are looking for.
  • Keep your request concise and focused on the specific information you need.
  • Avoid combining multiple unrelated topics within a single request.
  • Where possible, specify a date range or subject area.
  • If using AI to help draft your request, carefully review the content before submitting it to ensure it is accurate, relevant and reflects the information you wish to request.
  • Check our Publication Scheme and website first, as the information you require may already be available.

Further advice on using AI when making Freedom of Information requests is available from the Scottish Information Commissioner.
