Desperate Times: Ethyl Smith Author 26 Feb 2019 6:30pm-7:45pm £3.20 / £1.60 Lesmahagow Library
South Lanarkshire Libraries are happy to host Ethyl Smith as she returns to launch her latest book in the ever popular Times series; Changed Times, Dark Times and now Desperate Times. The series depicts ordinary people forced by circumstance to weigh their religious faith and their political beliefs against the everyday practicalities of survival. It is an unsustainable balancing act, and Ethyl doesn’t shrink from showing the brutality and destruction that result. She writes with a fine ear for Scots speech, and with a sensitive awareness to the different ways in which history intrudes upon the lives of men and women, soldiers and civilians, adults and children.
“South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture are delighted to be hosting Ethyl Smith. Her knowledge of the history of Lanarkshire make her visits a huge attraction for lovers of historical fiction as well as for people interested in well researched local history
