Shiona is deaf and has had to adapt to the changes of the enviroment around her throughout her entire life. This was inspired by her, to show that deafness is not to be treated so much like a disbility, and to provoke a change of attitude and awareness towards people who are deaf.
Script based on Shiona McClafferty's essay on her hearing loss.
Filmed, Directed and Edited by Amy Urquhart.

Community halls and school lets

The majority of schools in South Lanarkshire are available for hire by local community groups, individuals and commercial organisations outwith school hours - this is normally from 6.00pm-9.30pm each week day and on Saturday mornings.

The type of space available includes games halls, assembly halls, gym areas and classrooms.

There are also around 90 community halls in South Lanarkshire available for hire and these range from state of the art multi purpose venues such as South Lanarkshire Lifestyles- Carluke, South Lanarkshire Lifestyles- Fairhill and South Lanarkshire Lifestyles - Stonehouse through to large venues such as the Cambuslang Institute.  There are also a number of smaller village halls in rural areas such as Leadhills and Glassford available for hire.

Most of the community hall network is operated directly by South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture but a small number including Carstairs, Crawfordjohn and Douglas St Brides are run as independent companies or run by local management committees.

The community halls and schools network can be used for a variety of activities including meetings, keep-fit classes, business conferences, youth activities, sports activities, social and community events and older peoples' clubs and activities.

Bookings and general enquiries about the community halls and schools should be made through the booking offices given in How to Book.
