Synthetic pitches now available for adult use

Adults can start to use outdoor synthetic playing surfaces across South Lanarkshire from Monday 7 September.

This will be on a staged basis, initially at the following facilities:

  • Ballerup Recreation Area
  • Bent Recreation Area
  • Hamilton Palace Sports Grounds (covered 3G pitch excluded - except for under 12s)
  • Lanark Racecourse Recreation Area
  • McKirdy Recreation Area
  • Newton Farm Community Wing
  • The John Cumming Stadium

Opening times will be Monday to Friday 5.00pm to 10.00pm (variable at John Cumming Stadium).

A further five sites reopen for outdoor contact sport from Monday 21 September 2020

From 21 September the following Leisure Centre pitches also will re-open:

  • Eastfield Lifestyle
  • Fernhill Community Centre
  • Jock Stein Centre
  • Whitemoss Recreation Area (at John Wright Sport Centre)
  • Willie Waddell Sports and Community Centre

The above facilities can be booked from 14 September 2020 one week in advance.

Enquiries for pitches should be directed to the relevant centre. Contact details are available on the Synthetic Pitches web page.

It is anticipated that the grass pitches will open from the first weekend in October once the leagues commence.

General Manager for South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, David Booth, said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome adults back at our outdoor synthetic pitches from Monday (7 September).

“However, I would ask everyone to take notice of the guidelines we have in place and to remember the First Minister’s words – the virus has not gone away and we must do everything we can to contain it.

“If customers cannot access a pitch due to the facility not being open we will endeavour to make alternative arrangements, where possible, for customers at another facility or at an alternative time and you should contact the booking line initially to discuss your requirements.”

The process for booking and using a pitch is as follows:

  • All pitches must be booked by telephone prior to date of use. No provision for booking or paying will be available at facilities.
  • In the case of casual bookings the booking holder must keep a register of all players for 21 days in line with the Scottish Government’s Test and Protect requirement
  • Please arrive at the facility no more than 5 minutes prior to your booking and wait at the designated area as directed by staff
  • Signage will be in place with designated waiting area and we ask that customers follow staff direction at all times
  • Teams should ensure physical distancing and hygiene guidance is followed at all times
  • A one-way system will be in place and you should adhere to this at all times
  • There is no access to changing at this time and toilet access will be very limited – please encourage players to make use of facilities before leaving home
  • If you or any of your players display any of the signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact with someone showing the signs and symptoms you must not attend  and should stay at home and follow the advice from Scottish Government and NHS Scotland
  • No First Aid provision is available to causal customers. First Aid is the responsibility of clubs and organisations in line with current guidance.
