Space 2026 - Summer Reading Challenge
South Lanarkshire Libraries are proud to present ‘Space 2026’, our Summer Reading Challenge for.. 2026! As always, the challenge is for primary school-aged children and is completely free. All that’s required is a library card! Children will be able to set their own challenge of how many books (these can be library books or from elsewhere) to read during the summer break, and will receive rewards for completing the challenge. Space 2026 launches in all of our libraries on Saturday 20 June, and runs until Saturday 15 August - giving children plenty of time to read for enjoyment and get rewards.
How it works
- Children visit any South Lanarkshire library on or after Saturday 20 June (children should bring their library card, or sign up to become a member if they don’t have one: it only takes 5 minutes!)
- Ask staff to sign them up for the Space:2026 challenge and receive a ‘Reading Map’ which has a space exploration themed design on the front to track reading progress with stickers and activities to complete on the reverse.
- Children set themselves a target of how many books they will read to complete the challenge (this can be as little as one or as many as they like) and record their progress on their Reading Map using planet stickers. Once they have completed the challenge, they get a PRIZE and a SPECIAL MESSAGE!
- After the challenge has finished, children will receive a certificate at their school in the new term.
- Our libraries will also have free Space 2026 themed craft and activity sessions! (ask library staff for details).
- So, there’s no need to be bored during the summer break - come and visit our libraries to see what we have to offer and join us as we voyage into Space: 2026!
