Collections FAQ's

Answer:

We can't accept items which are dropped off and left at the museum. We need to ask about an item's history, find out about any stories connected with it and why it was important to the owner. Without the correct paperwork and signature we are left with a problem. We cannot easily dispose of the item and we cannot officially accept it into the collection. It then takes up scarce space in our stores.

We have a Collecting Policy which describes the kinds of things we want to collect. For information go to our Collections web page and read a copy of our Collecting Policy (also called an Acquisitions and Disposal Policy).

If you are keen to donate an object call the museum service on 01698 452382 and ask to speak to one of our collections staff. We will be only too happy to contact you to ask about the object and let you know if it is something we can consider.
