We have over 150,000 objects in our collections and it is impossible in the available space to display them all at once. Long periods of exposure to light and pollution can also badly damage some objects, and so we only display them on rare occasions in order to protect them. Our exhibitions programme allows us to display a temporary selection of objects not
included in the main displays. Our ongoing project of digitising our collections and making them available on this website is another way for you to enjoy more of our collection.
