Activity Description
30 Things to do before you’re 1 Fun activities for you and your baby to do together to help with binding and attachment.

Animal adventure club We all love our animals! Join our sessions to hear stories and go on adventures with your favourite animals. For children aged 1 year to pre-school.
Arts and crafts This is a fun filled course with everything from clay modelling, drawing and printmaking to painting with glitter. Designed to develop creativity, skills and interests in a broad range of visual art, craft and design activities. Age 3 years to pre-school.
Baby builders A session of stories, songs and brick toppling fun.  Enjoy playing with your baby while they learn a whole bucket load of essential new skills.   For children aged 9 months to pre-school.
Baby massage Delivered by an IAIM qualified tutor, baby massage encourages bonding and attachment from an early age. The sessions allow quality time whilst observing your baby’s needs ands wants over a course of 5 weeks. Contact relevant facility for further information. For babies 4 weeks to 12 months.
Bambino bikes (Bambinos) A project designed and delivered to assist children to ride a bicycle. The training will be focused on developing basic riding skills in a fun, supportive environment using positive coaching methods. Activities are designed to help little ones to build their confidence in handling a bicycle, scooting with their feet. We hold a limited amount bikes and helmets but participants are encouraged to bring their own. Parents are asked to stay and work with their child. For age 2 to 5 years.
Bizzy bouncers A parent and child accompanied class. Children get soft play and bouncy castles, a snack and a drink. Adults get a cup of tea or coffee. Age 6 weeks to pre-school.
Boogie beats for tiny feet Enjoy clapping, singing, wiggling, giggling and shaking in these fun and interactive sessions. For age 18 months to 3 years.
Busy bodies A different theme every session all based around health and well-being. Each session will involve a storybook and activity. Age 3 years to pre-school.
Celebration club We all love to celebrate special events. Join in the fun and learn how people celebrate around the world.
Crèche Allows parents to put their younger children into the crèche. Age 6 weeks to pre-school (ages may vary per site).
Cyber tots Teaching IT skills at early year’s stage will help develop skills across the areas of learning. Ages 2 years to pre-school.
Fun and games Fun filled hour of stories, rhymes and crafts with a new activity each time. This includes themed craft and messy play, baby and toddler discos and interactive re-tellings of your favourite children’s stories. Age birth to pre-school.
Go! Bouncers An introduction to movement and trampolining. Parents are required to stay with the children. For age 2 years to pre-school.
Go! Dance An introduction to dance that involves dancing games and follow the leader activities. These encourage children to copy movements and positions, develop their coordination and grow in confidence. Simple moves from activities can be made into short dance routines performed to upbeat music. The style of dance can change weekly and / or be child-led. The main focus is on their enjoyment of dancing and physical activity!
Go! Football Our structured football sessions ensure children are introduced to the game in a fun, safe and supported environment. Will help develop skills such as balance and control. Sessions include age-specific warm ups and skill development activities. Small sided games are introduced to encourage participation within team sports. Age 18 months to pre-school.
Go! Games This activity introduces and strengthens the fundamental skills required for all sports. It concentrates on movement, hand eye co-ordination, striking and racquet skills. It is a fun activity that incorporates modified games. Age 3 years to pre-school.
Go! Movers An introduction to gymnastics and the use of basic apparatus. Sessions will incorporate the fundamentals of movement and the basics of the sport through fun activities. Age 18 months to pre-school.
Go! Play These sessions are designed to encourage all areas of a child’s development. This includes physical, social, emotional, intellectual and language activities. We use a variety of preschool play methods in a fun and active environment. Age 18 months to pre-school.
Go! SportEY Action packed fun SportEY activities with a focus on movement and hand eye coordination. Will help towards our young children achieving their key development milestones. Age 3 years to pre-school.
Go! Tennis A fun and active introduction to the skills required for the game of tennis. Age 3 years to pre-school.
Jolly tots Enjoy listening to stories and book-based crafts. Age 1 year to pre-school.

Little explorers Help your child to understand the world around them in fun, innovative sessions. We will learn about different countries, try their food, make a craft and play some games. A must for future globe trotters. Age 2 years to pre-school.
Little green fingers Basic indoor planting and gardening as well as crafts. Age 3 years to pre-school.
Little lingweenies A gentle introduction to different languages through the use of books, songs activities and apps. Age 18 months to pre-school.
Little Picassos Messy and fun arts sessions, exploring texture and colour through painting. Ages 18 months to pre-school.
Little steps Little Steps Sessions for babies and toddler to introduce unstructured free play as a way of learning. Age birth to pre-school.
Messy hands Fun craft sessions including sticking, painting, cutting and a chance to borrow the latest books.  Age birth to pre-school.
Messy play Join us to play with water, sand, paint and more. Bring a change of clothes. Age birth to pre-school.
Mini modelling Have some fun using clay. This workshop lets younger ones experience the feel of clay in their hands as they shape and model it. Age 18 months to pre-school.
Mini music makers Sing, play and move to the music. Workshops for pre school children and their grown up companions. Age 18 months to 3 years.
Mini riders The programme is an opportunity for young riders to learn and improve their cycling skills and physical fitness in an age and stage appropriate environment. The programme aims to attract 4-8 year old new riders to the sport, raise the profile of cycle sport and provide a pathway to develop more skilful riders in the future. Age 4 - 8 years.
Nursery rhyme club A fun loving session dedicated to our best loved nursery rhymes with crafts, activities and lots of singing.  Age 12 months to pre-school.
Once upon a time Fairytale stories for children with magical crafts and imaginary creatures. Age 1 year to pre-school.
Paint and play Fun creative and storytelling sessions for babies, toddlers and their care givers. Please contact your local library for more information. Age birth to pre-school.
Racquet sports Introduction to racquet sports: Badminton, Tennis, Short Tennis, Table Tennis. Basic development of all these sports, introducing hand eye co-ordination and building knowledge of each activity. Feeder class to existing specific classes allowing children to try each activity. Age 3 years to pre-school.
SENSEational Stories Sessions to help develop your child develop their senses.  Each story links to one of the five senses and includes sensory games and toys.  Age birth to pre-school.
Shake, rattle and read Fun interactive story telling session featuring stories, songs, rhymes and movement for caregivers and their children. Age 18 months to pre-school.
Splash club Through fun and play children gain water confidence with our knowledgeable coaches. Adults are not required to attend the class with the children, however must remain in the building during the class. Bookable seven days in advance. Age 3 years to pre-school.
Splash, rhyme and storytime Parent and child sing together and listen to a story in the pool. Helps with becoming confident in the water and learning early swimming skills. Age 6 months to 3 years.
Tactile tots Bring along your little one to a weekly themed session focusing on sights, sounds, touch and smell. Songs and rhymes will guide us as we play and explore.  Engage with our supportive staff and meet new friends for you and your child. Age 0-6 months / 6-12 months.
Tiny art This parent and child workshop will let your little one explore print making, painting, mark making and collage. Each workshop will cover a different theme and everyone can take home a piece of original art. Age 18 months to 3 years.
Tiny play A fun, safe play environment for children from birth-preschool, a great chance for mums / carers to come together to chat and relax in a controlled environment and enjoy the company of others.
Tiny toons Toys, vegetables, anything can be brought to life with animation! Think of Toy Story or CBBC’s Ooglies. This animation workshop gives you lifeless random objects and all you have to do is make them move. This animation workshop will show you how to make faces and extra bits. Age 18 months to pre-school.
Toddler adventure club From safari’s to camping to treasure hunting, a new adventure every week.  Age 1 year to pre-school.
Wee create! Crafts and creations for pre-school children. Age 3 years to pre-school
Wee scientist Let your child delve into experiments and challenges in science, technology and engineering! This interactive class combines crafts, sensory and learning activities. Adult and child team up to find out more about the world around them. Age 2 years to pre-school.
Weigh to go new mum 15 week FREE adult weight management programme for new mums delivered in partnership with SLLC and NHS Lanarkshire. 45 minutes nutritional component followed by 45 minutes of circuit based exercise. Mums and babies are able to attend from post-natal checkup onwards
When I grow up I'm going to be... A fun session that teaches children about jobs and occupations and an opportunity to meet a real life professional. Age 2 years to pre-school.
Yogi bears Literacy based yoga classes. Introduce your toddler to yoga poses while at the same time developing his interest for storytelling.
Zoo tots Discover the fascinating world of animals at Calderglen Zoo through games and craft activities. Some activities will take place outdoors. For age 2 years to pre-school.

ACE holiday camp These 5 hour sessions take place in the Summer / Spring holiday times. Camps provide non-stop fun filled sessions with a multi-sport approach and are both child and coach-led. 5-12 years
Adult and child arts and crafts For families, this fun-filled arts course with everything from clay modelling, drawing and print making to painting with glitter! 5-12 years
After school fun activities / clubs

A host of fun clubs and activities held in your local library. Contact your local library for details of the current clubs / activities on offer. 5-12 years

Arts and crafts A great opportunity to explore a range of arts and crafts techniques using a variety of materials. The course aims to develop creativity, skills and interests in a broad range of visual art, craft and design activities. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Arts and crafts cool! This is a fun-filled arts course with everything from clay modelling, drawing and printmaking to painting with glitter! The course aims to develop creativity, skills and interests in a broad range of visual art, craft and design activities. 5-12 years
Athletics Skill development activities in running, jumping and throwing. For the older age group P6-7 they will work towards making the transition to the main clubs. P1-P3 / P4-P7
Badminton This activity is for children to continue their skill development and progress their awareness and knowledge of the badminton game. 5-7 years / 8-12 years

Basketball These sessions will introduce and develop basic basketball skills through fun activity, skills practice and playing games. Participants will develop their fitness, hand to eye co-ordination, agility, throwing and catching skills. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Camera: Action animate Toys, vegetables, anything can be brought to life with animation! Think of Toy Story or CBBC’s Ooglies. This animation workshop will show you how to make faces and extra bits. All you have to do is get some good ideas going with the other new animators. If you have a smallish (e.g. 10-15cm) toy you wish to animate, you can bring it along. You will also be shown how to create your own models. 8-12 years
Camera: Action film Come along to work with your friends and our tutor to have fun making your own short film. You will be scripting, shooting, editing and then adding animated titles and music. You will use our new high definition camera for your final short film to show your friends and family! Participants can join up in any term. All films made will be released online at the end of each term. 8-12 years
Ceramics (introduction) This course will teach all the fundamental skills to kick off your creative journey with clay! Learn techniques including slab building, pinch pots, surface decoration, glazing, coil building and throwing on the potter’s wheel. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Ceramics (intermediate / advanced) Used clay before? Got an idea you’d like to turn into a reality? Children with previous experience can learn more advanced and skilful techniques, refine existing skills and gain knowledge. New making methods and pattern making is introduced as well as re-visiting old favourites like the potters wheel! 8-12 years
Children's general art The course is designed for children who want to learn more in depth about drawing techniques and painting. They are encouraged to expand their potential and imagination. 8-12 years
Coding club Fun creative club introducing children to the basics of coding. 8-12 years
Creative writing Sessions to encourage budding authors. Small groups of children working together and individually to write their own short stories. 8-12 years
Dance A fun session focussing on basic dance technique and movement, developing skills and building routines. 5-12 years
Digital design and construction A fun-packed educational session for 5 to 12 years. Encourages children to develop essential literacy, digital and creative skills, which may include Lego or Minecraft. Please contact your local library for more information. 5-12 years
Dinosaur explorer club Learn different dinosaur facts and take part in different dinosaur activities each week. Activities include dinosaur digs and making your own fossil. 5-7 years
Dodgeball This team activity covers basic hand-eye coordination, various movement patterns and the game of dodge ball extreme. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Drama for children Drama classes for children offering tuition with fun including improvisation, voice production and stage direction. Participation in drama helps develop children’s self-confidence, socialising skills, creativity and imagination. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Drum kit Want to play drums? Whether you are a beginner or just want to develop your playing further this course is great fun. Taught in small, friendly and relaxed groups. Once you’ve got the basics it’s up to you what direction you take. You can learn to play several different styles or simply focus on your favourites. Rock, pop, jazz, funk and Latin are just a few of the styles we teach. There’s something for everyone – a double kick pedal for when you’re hot, jazz brushes for when you are cool! 8-12 years
Fantasy book club Spend some time discussing your favourite fantasy books with crafts, quizzes and games. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Football These structured football sessions include warm-ups via fun activities, skills development practices, and small-sided games. This helps to develop children’s overall technical ability. 5-7 years / 8-12 years

Games club Sessions use traditional board games like Monopoly and Junior Scrabble to develop numeracy and literacy skills. Games like Twister help to develop motor skills. 5-12 years

Guitar: Beginners Your musical journey begins here - learn basic technique in a chilled environment with other budding guitar heroes! 8-12 years
Guitar: Improvers For children who have completed the beginner level to advance and improve technique and try out new styles. 8-12 years

Whatever style you want to master, however far you want to take it, this is the best place to start. Small group tuition gives you enough personal guidance to make far more progress than with an instruction book or DVD. You will have a lot more fun too! 8-12 years
Guitar: Stage 1 Now you have begun, it’s time to speed up your journey! This course will build on what you already know and open up a whole world of exciting options. You will gradually develop your guitar playing skills and musical knowledge. With a growing ability and confidence comes more enjoyment! 8-12 years
Guitar: Stage 2 This is the course for those with a bit of playing experience who want to hone their skills. Whether you are a sing-along strummer or heading for Glastonbury! You will find new techniques and approaches to maximise your guitar playing. With expert tuition in small, friendly classes you can really start to ramp up your guitar playing potential! 8-12 years
Gymnastics This session will develop skills incorporating floor work and apparatus to progress awareness, knowledge and development within gymnastics. 5-7 years / 8-12 years  
In2act In2act is a drama / theatre project. Participants enjoy having fun, meeting new friends and learning new drama and theatre skills with our experienced drama tutors. Participation in drama workshops helps develop children’s self confidence, creativity and imagination, plus it’s lots and lots of fun! 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Keyboard This course is designed for the complete beginner to improve. You can learn everything from posture, playing height and preparation to stave and structure is covered. It also encourages those more advanced to expand their skills in a relevant and fun atmosphere along with others. 8-12 years
Keyboard: Introduction This course covers all the basics, so you can learn to play completely from scratch! Everything from posture, playing height and preparation to stave and structure is covered in a relaxed atmosphere. On completion, you will be able to read and play music from at least one stave. The course aims to provide a good understanding of basic theory and how to play the ‘keys’! 8-12 years
Keyboard: Stage 1 Stage one takes everything you learned in the introduction that little bit further! The music is a little more complicated and more emphasis is placed on left hand playing. Some creative work is encouraged with more use of improvisation and group playing. By the end of Stage 1, you can expect to have developed your knowledge and skills. This will include learning more about keyboard harmony. 8-12 years
Keyboard: Stage 2 By this stage you will have developed the skills and knowledge to express yourself creatively on the keys. This course further develops your improvisation, solo and group work as well as the concepts of harmony and practical musicianship. Your musical development is tailored as much as possible to your individual needs whilst ensuring the classes remain fun! 8-12 years
Lego club Fun sessions to develop your child’s fine motor skills, numeracy and literacy skills as they create imaginative stories using Lego. 5-12 years
Mandolin: Improvers This course is run in partnership with The Lanarkshire Guitar and Mandolin Association. Young People are introduced to techniques and notes, music theory, ensemble playing and musical expression. 8-12 years
Minecraft club Sessions to explore, create and craft anything using Minecraft software. Encourages your child’s creativity and IT skills, while increasing confidence and building social skills. 5-12 years

Myths and monsters Giants and Yetis and Sea Monsters to name a few. We all love monsters and their stories. Enjoy activities, crafts and games will help us to find out. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Netball The sessions will concentrate on the skills required for netball. Netball Scotland’s Fun5z structure allows us to take into account the age, maturity and skill level of the young players. This ensures each individual learns in a fun and enjoyable environment. This is an ideal starting point for our young players. It helps them progress to / with their school teams and eventually junior clubs. P4-P5 / P6-P7
Pottery A course in pottery offers the chance to learn basic hand building techniques, coiling, pinching and slab building. It encourages children’s imagination to the fullest! 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Powerhoop This session will focus on improving their fitness levels via fun games and challenges with a powerhoop. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Racquet sports Introduction to racquet sports: Badminton, Tennis, Short Tennis, Table Tennis. Basic development of all these sports, introducing hand eye co-ordination, building knowledge of each activity. Feeder class to existing specific classes allowing children to try each activity. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Sew It Learn how to hand sew and have fun making some great little projects. Using brightly coloured felts, fabrics, ribbons and buttons, children will enjoy both the process and the outcome of the projects. 8-12 years
Singing A fun singing session for children of all abilities. No previous experience required. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
SNAP happy SNAP Happy is designed for children to learn great new techniques available on digital cameras. They will experiment with depth of field, fast and slow shutter speeds, optical illusions and various types of composition. Children will gain a deeper understanding of their digital camera’s functions. This will allow their creativity to flourish as their technical knowledge and familiarity develops. 8-12 years
Spyquest Every child gets a mission to solve a mystery based on a Spyquest story. With the Spyquest app downloaded on to their tablet they can race to solve the quest. (Child must have their own tablet to take part) 8-12 years
Street dance Street dance sessions give participants the chance to learn a variety of dance moves in a fun, safe environment. It encourages social interaction and confidence. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Super soccer These football sessions are based on specific skills with and without the ball. The session is split into four stations. These include various activities such as fast feet, shooting, dribbling, passing and team play through specific drills and free play. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Tennis This activity allows children to continue their skill development and progress their awareness and knowledge of Tennis. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Through the ages What would it be like to grow up in the times of the Vikings, the Egyptians or the Romans? Activities, crafts and games will help us to find out. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Trampoline Developing skills, techniques and routines and progress their awareness and knowledge and development within trampolining. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Urban dance Come along and learn all the basics of street dance and build on your choreography skills. This is a great weekly dance club for boys and girls with bags of energy. 5-7 years / 8-12 years
Volleyball Structured Volleyball sessions include a warm up, skill-development practices, and games to develop the participant’s overall technical ability. An ideal opportunity for players keen to get involved in a team sport. This can help them progress to / with their school or local community Volleyball team. 8-12 years

Mandolin: Improvers This course is run in partnership with The Lanarkshire Guitar and Mandolin Association. Young People are introduced to techniques and notes, music theory, ensemble playing and musical expression.
Netball Structured Netball sessions include a warm up, skill development practices, and games to develop the participant’s overall technical ability. An ideal opportunity for players keen to get involved in a team sport. It can help them progress to / with their school or local community Netball team.
Sing your face off A fun singing session for children of all abilities to come and join in with other enthusiastic pope singers.  Confidence builder and stress reliever class.  No previous experience required.
Teens ceramics (13 yrs and over) Carry on your clay journey at this course for teenagers who have been attending the introduction, intermediate / advanced classes.
Teens drawing and painting A fun, engaging class aiming to advance drawing skills through line, tone and spatial awareness, painting techniques and colour use. Classes are made up of self-motivation and class projects.
Teens pottery A course in pottery offers the chance to learn basic hand building techniques, coiling, pinching and slab building. It encourages young people’s imagination that bit further!
Trampoline Developing skills, techniques and routines and progress their awareness and knowledge and development within trampolining.

Inclusion sport

This table contains descriptions for Inclusion sport activities. For children aged 5-15 years with a physical, learning or sensory disability.
Activity Description
Inclusion playzone The inclusion Playzone is for children who may prefer to be in a more supported environment. It gives the opportunity to take part in a variety of different play activities. This includes physical games, soft play, arts, table games, construction play, sensory play and much more.

Inclusion athletics Structured athletics sessions provide the ideal opportunity to develop running, throwing and jumping skills with various drills and activities. These sessions are specifically designed to cater for those who require some additional support to participate in a session.
Boccia The sport is similar to bowls, designed for people with disability but open to all.  All players play from a seated position.
Inclusion football Structured football sessions include a warm up, skill development practices and small sided games. This helps to develop the participant’s ability and participation within the sport. These sessions are specifically designed to cater for those who require some additional support to participate in a session.
Inclusive zone basketball Inclusive zone basketball is an exciting new approach to wheelchair basketball played in teams of 4.  The court is zoned into 3 areas. The centre zone is for wheelchair users and the outer zones for ambulant / able-bodied players.
Inclusion multi sports This activity introduces and strengthens the fundamental skills required for all sports.  A fun activity incorporating modified games that introduces young people with a disability to various sports in a supported environment.
Trampoline This session develops skills techniques and confidence on a trampoline, through learning new moves and combining them in routines.  These sessions are specifically designed for those with a physical, learning or sensory disability.

Additional activities included in ACE membership

Crèche

ACE / fitness membership allows parents to put younger children into the crèche, while they / older children attend their own activities.

Please note: places are available on a first come, first served basis. Maximum capacity will be determined by the facilities’ normal operating procedure.

East Kilbride Ice Rink

ACE members can access the Ice Rink for free*. This includes all General Skating sessions Monday – Friday.

* A £2 skate hire will still apply if required. During the curling season free access will be restricted to Thursday and Friday, except during school holidays.

Fitness classes (12+ or 14+)

ACE membership gives the card holder access to SLLC fitness classes.

Please note the restrictions below:

  • Group Cycle - height check required before participation (see Gym Supervisor)
  • Body Pump - only available to youths 14 years and over due to use of weights

Golf

ACE membership allows the card holder to book a round of golf at their local SLLC course.

Please note, after 5:00pm all under 16’s must be accompanied by a paying adult (Monday to Friday). Before 2:00pm all under 16’s must be accompanied by a paying adult (Saturday and Sunday).

Also includes putting and pitch and putt.

Gym (12+ or 14+)

ACE membership gives any card holder 12 years* and over access to all ‘staffed’ SLLC gyms at programmed times. Gym inductions are also included with this membership.

Staffed gyms are found at Carluke – Lanark – Blantyre – Dollan – Hamilton Water Palace – Larkhall – Strathaven – Lifestyles Eastfield.

Entry to ‘unstaffed’ gyms is only available to youths 14 years and over.

Unstaffed gyms are found at Forth – Biggar – Coalburn – Blackwood – Fairhill – Jock Stein – Duncanrig – Uddingston – Lesmahagow – Burnhill – John Wright.At Dollan Aqua Centre, Gym 1 is 12 years+ and Gym 2 is 14 years+.

Racquet sports

ACE membership includes booking courts in SLLC leisure facilities to play racquet sports such as badminton, tennis and squash.

Soft play

ACE membership includes entry to the soft play areas across the authority.

Swim

Access to all SLLC pools, following the under 8's swimming policy.

All under 8’s must be accompanied in the water by an adult (over the age of 16 years) as follows:

For Hamilton Water Palace and Dollan Aqua Centre an adult can only be responsible for:

  • Two children aged 4 to 7 years
  • A maximum of one child aged under 4 years

The adult must remain within reach of the children / child at all times. This is regardless of the swimming ability of the child or the adult.

All other SLLC pools - an adult can only be responsible for:

  • Two children aged 4 to 7 years
  • Two children under 4 if they are wearing approved floatation device
  • Under 4 with no floatation device (revert to 1:1 rule)

The adult must remain within reach of the children/child at all times.  This is regardless of the swimming ability of the child or the adult.

Track use

ACE membership allows the card holder to use the 400 metre athletics track for casual track use. This is available via Carluke Leisure Centre (John Cumming Stadium) and the John Wright Sports Centre (East Kilbride Stadium).  All casual bookings will be available subject to the facilities' current timetable and opening hours. The Stadium opening times will vary depending on the season.
